LONG STORIES || love can build a bridge || 8

2 weeks later

Mark looked up hopefully as the door opened, but his face fell as Shane and Kian entered the room, instead of the person he’s been hoping for.
Shane saw the look on his face and laughed,

“So sorry mate, we’ll go then!”

Mark looked horrified and shook his head, “No! No, stay, it’s okay! It’s just Kev. said he’d be in this morning and it’s now afternoon and…”

Kian broke him off by jumping onto the bed, and then winced. “Dunno how you sleep of this Mark, it’s hard as stone!”

Mark glanced down at his bandaged wrists and smiled ruefully,

“Yeah, well, I can’t complain, it’s my own fault I’m here. But I can guarantee one thing. I won’t be doing anything like this again in a hurry!”

Shane and Kian exchanged relieved looks and the both knew that they had one person to thank for that – Kevin.

Ever since Mark had woken up and found Kevin by his bed, he had taken a whole new look on life. Bit by bit his attitude to being gay was being chipped away by Kevin’s presences and love.
During the first week, he had hardly moved from Mark’s side, being there for him through everything, even the many injections that Mark had to have, and seeing as Kevin was afraid of needles, this was a big thing.

Flashback

Right Mark, I understand you’ve been pretty sick the last few hours. I’m just going to give you some stuff that should stop the vomiting.”

The doctor held up a decent sized needle, and Kevin felt himself go light-headed. Mark on the other hand looked like he couldn’t care less, just so long it made him feel better.
The doctor go Mark to squeeze his hand into a fist a couple of times so he could see the veins, before swiping the injection site with an alcohol swab.
Nervously Kevin took Mark’s hand and tried not to pay attention to what was happening, but it was hard not to look. Mark noticed his nervousness and smiled,

“You okay babes?”

Deciding that it was better not to let Mark know about his phobia of needles, Kevin nodded and smiled back.

“Okay Mark, just a quick prick and then you’ll feel something cold in your veins. Should take effect immediately, so no more vomiting!”

Kevin watch in horror as the needle slide into Mark’s arm, and before he could stop it, the whole room spun and he slipped off the chair, landing heavily on the ground, completely out of it.

The whole room looked up as Kevin feinted, and Mark couldn’t help but laugh. It was just like Kevin to act all macho rather than admit to being scared.
The doctor too looked amused and quickly finished up with Mark’s arm, placing a bandaid over the entry site, pulling Mark’s sleeve down again quickly so he couldn’t see what he had done.
He then crossed to the other side of the room, calling for a nurse as he went.

“Righto Kevin, you silly boy, you shouldn’t have stayed!”

A male nurse appeared in the door way, “You rang?”

A smirk crossed the doctors face, “Yes, I did. Young Master McDaid seems to have a problem with needles, give me a hand to get him onto the couch will you?”

Meanwhile Mark was almost in stiches on the bed. The combination of pain killers for his wrists and the medication he had just had in injected was making him somewhat hyper and happy.

Kevin was just beginning to stir when he was laid on the couch, and he opened one eye, getting the sinking feeling that he had managed to embarrass himself in front of lots of people. It was confirmed by the grinning nurse who was hovering above him and the sound of Mark giggling away on the bed.

“Back with us Master McDaid? Next time, don’t feint on us!”

Groaning Kevin collapsed back against the couch pillows as the doctor and the nurse left the room.
Over on the bed, Mark was still giggling away, and it was beginning to get annoying.

“Mark?”

Silence, then a giggle, then “Yes Kevvy?”

Kevin gritted his teeth, he hated being called Kevvy.

“What the hell is so funny?”

More giggles, “Everything, and you feinted, I sawed you”

Sawed? Oh great, this was brilliant, and the last thing he needed.

“Mark, do you feel okay?”

“Feel fan-wan-tastic, I’ve never been happier Kevvy-Wevvy Pie!”

Fantastic, he had a boyfriend who was high on hospital issue drugs and who know was determined to drive him up the wall by calling him every cutsie name on the planet.

Mark was silent for a few minutes, and Kevin took the opportunity to sit up and make sure he felt okay, he risked a glance over at Mark, and watched as he pulled determinedly on his sleeve, tugging it up.
The silence was broken by another bout of giggles,

“Look Kevvy! They’ve give me a Thomas the Tank Engine bandaid!”

Kevin dropped his head into his hands and groaned, what on Earth had he gotten himself in for?”

End Flashback

Kian and Shane were in fits of giggles as Mark retold the story to them for the second time. It was a classic and they would never tire of hearing it.
The door opened again, and Mark’s lit up as Kevin came into the room.

“Hey guys, hey babes,” Crossing the room, he gave Mark a gentle kiss, and the looked in confusion at giggling forms of Shane and Kian.

“They haven’t been into your drugs have they?”

Mark laughed and shook his head, “Just told them about you feinting, again!”

Kevin blushed and pushed him gently.

“Well seeing as they are otherwise engaged, come here you,”

Kevin kissed Mark again, and it didn’t take long for the kiss to come intensely passionate. So passionate that they didn’t hear Kian and Shane stop laughing until they spoke,

“Oi! Stop trying to eat him Kevin!”

They broke apart and blushed, caught in the act.

“We’re off now, we’ll see you later!”

Kevin smiled as the vanished out the door and down the hall, before turning back to Mark,

“Now, where were we?”
