SUPERGROUP Westlife have been urged to help their local cash-strapped soccer club by buying some rare band memorabilia when it goes up for auction next week.

Avid collector Gavin Walsh from Sligo has agreed to donate his Westlife collection to raise money for Sligo Rovers at an auction next week to mark the club's 80th birthday and the 25th anniversary of their 1983 FAI Cup win over Bohemians.

The collection, worth an estimated €30,000, comprises up to 250 rare and one--off items of memorabilia, including Latin American and Asian posters, magazine covers and singing doll replicas of the Sligo group.

Mr Walsh (43), who has what is believed to be the biggest collection of Sex Pistols memorabilia in the world, said: "I felt it was my civic duty to collect these guys so I went on an eight-year binge, collating, cataloguing and collecting everything relating to Westlife".

He was once approached by a representative for the band to buy the collection.

Irish band Westlife pick up IFPI Platinum Awards for three separate albums in the third quarter of 2008. Albums achieve an IFPI Platinum Award when they first cross the million sales mark in Europe and for each additional million sales they rack up.

Westlife originally formed in 1998 and its current line-up consists of Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan. The band achieved an IFPI Platinum Award for their ninth studio album Back Home and another for The Love Album, which contained the band's 14th UK number one The Rose.

In addition, their greatest hits compilation Unbreakable scored its second IFPI Platinum Award as it crossed the two million sales threshold across Europe.

Heavy metal veterans Metallica scored an IFPI Platinum Europe Award for their album Death Magnetic within a month of its release in September. The album also charted at number one in the US, making the band the first to have five studio albums debut at number one in the history of the Billboard Top 200.

Other albums picking up an IFPI Platinum Europe Award include the soundtrack to the smash hit film Mamma Mia featuring the songs of ABBA, One Chance the debut album from Paul Potts, winner of Britain's Got Talent, and Siempre from international operatic pop act Il Divo.

Leona Lewis picks up an IFPI Platinum Europe Award for her debut album Spirit, which includes the track Bleeding Love which topped the charts in 34 countries. The album topped the charts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Ireland, as well as becoming the fastest selling debut album since records began in the UK.

Coldplay’s international hit album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends picks up its second IFPI Platinum Europe Award of the year. The critically acclaimed Viva la Vida won a Q Award for best album of the year in October and has topped the charts in 36 countries worldwide.

Singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse collects an amazing sixth IFPI Platinum Europe Award for her album Back to Black. The album contains a slew of hit singles including Rehab, You Know I'm No Good, Tears Dry on Their Own and Love is a Losing Game.

CYNON Valley¢s biggest Westlife fan Vicky Jones has pledged to be at the ¡front of the queue¢ when their eagerly-anticipated new album (I bet they mean the new DVD) is released next month.

10 Years Of Westlife: Live At Croake Park, hits the shelves on November 24.

“I cannot wait – it will be so exciting,” said Vicky just after she gave herself a special 40th birthday present this year – a giant tattoo of the band on her back!

Vicky, of Abercwmboi, spent 16 hours under the needle having the four faces of the band members etched on her body.

Vicky, a mother of four, has seen 300 Westlife concerts and counts herself as their greatest fan.

“My children reckon I am crazy but the tattoos are fabulous,” she said.

“All my money goes on Westlife – about £4,000 a year. I must be their biggest fan.”

Singers Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Kian Egan added their autographs recently and Mrs Jones then had them inked over onto her back, underneath their portraits.

Her daughter Stacey, 18, said: “I am not that keen on Westlife at all – mum¢s too obsessed if you ask me.”

Vicky¢s husband Colin, 42, is also not a big fan of the band.

“He can¢t abide Westlife – but he doesn¢t say a lot,” said Mrs Jones.

CECELIA Ahern's long-term boyfriend, David Keoghan, celebrated his 30th birthday in style at the K Club in Kildare on Saturday night.

The glamorous couple, who currently share a plush home in Malahide, were joined by some of their high-profile friends and family including the Westlife lads and Cecelia's big sister Georgina, her mum Miriam and her dad -- former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

Recently, David made his first movie, an indie flick called 'Watching and Waiting'. Directed by James Fair and co-starring Johanne Murdoch, he told the Herald it is a "fairly light, simple movie" and explained the part was written for him. David trained as an actor in both London and Paris.

Hard-working Cecelia is currently penning a second movie and the world premiere of her first play, Mrs. Whippy, will be staged at Liberty Hall later this month.

She can now add this latest venture to her impressive resume, which already boasts a total of 10 million in book sales alone as well as her successful movie PS I Love You.
