‘Westlife Recorded A Message For My Daughter’s Birthday!'
Article shortened and only includes the parts about Westlife
by Lydia Whitfield, South Wales Echo
JOANNE Hancocks, 34, lives in Pontllanfraith and is married to Karl. She is mum to Sophie, 11, and Tom, six, and is personal assistant to the station director at Real Radio in Morganstown, Cardiff.
Met any celebs?
I’ve met Shane Ward, Westlife and my favourite was when Duncan from Blue came in. The band had split up so he came on his own and I asked him for an autograph for my daughter Sophie, then asked if Sophie’s mum could have a photo taken with him. We had Girls Aloud in the studio the other week and they are very particular with their cups of tea. In the end, they asked me just to take the sugar bowl in for them to do it themselves.
When Westlife came in once for 9am, they wanted breakfast baguettes and it was a case of rushing down to the local garden centre and begging them to make up some bacon rolls and acting as if we’ve always got things like that to hand. I’ve got lots of autographs, but have got a bit blase, which is a shame, and just put them to one side at home.
What are the biggest perks of the job?
I’m sometimes the acts liaison when we have events in Cardiff or Swansea and my children love that. They sometimes get backstage access. I had Westlife record a message for my daughter’s birthday a few weeks ago. She said she’s so pleased I work for Real Radio.
