Westlife fans have karaoke machine confiscated for belting out hits
by Villy on 11 Feb 2009 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
A couple who belted out Westlife hits day and night have had their karaoke machine confiscated.

Fed-up neighbours were left clutching their ears as the pair screeched songs such as Flying Without Wings.

The council told the wouldbe singers 10 times to turn down the music which was making the walls of the flat below vibrate and could be heard 150ft away.

Eventually officers in Folkestone, Kent, obtained a warrant to seize the machine.

Resident Aaron Attwater, 21, said: "It has been an absolute nightmare."

Nicky's '09 vow to wow
by Villy on 15 Jan 2009 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
WESTLIFE star Nicky Byrne has promised fans the group will storm back into the 2009 charts with a "huge new album".

The chart-topping singer and his bandmates have been on a year-long break from the limelight but he said they will be back and better than ever next year.

Nicky, 30, revealed: "We've got big plans for 2009. We're on a break until June and then we're back in the studio to do a huge new album.

"We're going to the US to work with some great producers. We're all really excited.

"There were some really big names thrown about so we can't wait to start on that." And he told how Westlife were in a world of their own at last June's sell-out gig in Croke Park.

He said: "We were lucky enough to play our 10-year anniversary concert there last summer.

"It think I could say that it was the highlight of all our careers."

WESTLIFE are the only Irish group to make the top
by Villy on 15 Jan 2009 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
COOLER THAN THE ARCTIC MONKEYS;

TAKE THAT MAY BE NO1 BAND OF ALL TIME WITH TEENAGERS BUT WESTLIFE ARE STILL...

WESTLIFE are the only Irish group to make the top 10 list of the coolest bands ever.

The pop stars - Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan - even finished above rockers Arctic Monkeys.

Westlife came in at No10 in the poll of 3,000 teenagers. Arctic Monkeys, whose hits include When The Sun Goes Down, just made it at No20.
Take That - who reformed in 2006 - grabbed the top spot followed by Girls Aloud, Aerosmith, and Busted.

Guns 'N' Roses came fifth, proving 1980s rock bands are seeing a resurgence in popularity with the younger generation.

This is partly thanks to interactive computer games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band which use their music.

Aerosmith even joined forces with the creators of Guitar Hero to bring out their own version of the game, while Metallica have a version due out later this year.

A spokesman for www.youngpoll.com, which carried out the research, said: "Take That's huge comeback success proves they are worthy of being named the coolest band ever.

"Not only were they huge the first time around but they have come back after more than a decade away to enjoy even more success.

"But judging by the results of this poll other bands could soon be enjoying the same fate thanks to Guitar Hero. You wouldn't think teenagers would be included in the list of Aerosmith and Guns 'N' Roses fans.

"But by playing the computer games they are listening to music they wouldn't normally hear."

Take That cemented their successful comeback after their latest album The Circus sold a million copies in just 19 days, while more than a million tickets have been sold for their summer tour. They entered the record books after 600,000 tickets were sold in less than five hours, making it the fastest-selling tour ever in the history of Britain.

Other notable groups included guitar-playing trio Busted in fourth, thanks to hits such as What I Go To School For and Year 3000.

In seventh position are the Gallagher brothers' Oasis.

Swedish pop group Abba are in eight place - possibly helped by the fact X Factor favourite Eoghan Quigg confessed to being a fan of the band after performing their hit Does Your Mother Know? on the talent show.

Chris Martin's Coldplay made 12th spot while the sexy Pussycat Dolls are at 15.

TOP 20 COOLEST BANDS OF ALL TIME
1. Take That, 2. Girls Aloud, 3. Aerosmith, 4. Busted, 5. Guns 'N' Roses, 6. Fall Out Boy, 7. Oasis, 8. Abba, 9. McFly, 10. Westlife, 11. The Killers, 12. Coldplay, 13. Green Day, 14. Linkin Park, 15. Pussycat Dolls, 16. Sugababes, 17. The Tings Tings, 18. Kaiser Chiefs, 19. Red Hot Chili Peppers, 20. Arctic Monkeys.

Take That's comeback success proves they're worthy of coolest band title.
