Robbie snubbed by Brits
by Villy on 11 Jan 2008 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
Westife Mentioned

Williams snubbed by awards for second year in a row

Pop stars are set to sweep the boards at this year's Brits, with one notable exception - poor old Robbie Williams.

We can reveal that, once again, the Robster has been Rudely snubbed by the prestigious music awards.

Although his dire Rudebox album somehow made the final eligibility list for Best Male and Best Album, it will be dropped from the final shortlist when it is announced on Monday.

And it looks like the only way Robbie will get an invite to the starstudded ceremony - held at London's Earls Court on February 20 - is if he asks his old mates Take That if he can tag along with them.

The Brits are rapidly becoming Robbie's nemesis.

Last year's ceremony - at which he lost out to Muse in the Best Live Act category - coincided with him going to rehab.

Since then he has sunk deeper into obscurity, while his former bandmates are on a high.

Take That's comeback album, Beautiful World, has been a sensational success and they are favourites to win British Group at this year's Brits.

Although indie acts have dominated the awards in the past - with Arctic Monkeys and The Killers being last year's big winners - TV insiders hint that Take That aren't the only pop act set to bag a coveted statue.

Kylie Minogue is tipped to top the list of nominations for International Female with her new album X. Winning the gong would top an amazing comeback for Kylie, following her inspirational battle with breast cancer.

Mika's circus shows are also expected to be a big hit with the voting academy.

We predict that the flamboyant Lebanese-born singer, who burst on to the music scene with his candycoated pop album Life In Cartoon Motion, will be up for Best Male - along with Mark Ronson and Shayne Ward.

And expect to see past X-Factor winner Leona Lewis in the final nominations for Best Female and Best Single.

A tv insider says: "This year there's been a resurgence in pop acts. The return of the Spice Girls and Take That has whetted everyone's appetite for fun.

"The charts have been full of serious indie bands. Babyshambles and Arctic Monkeys might get a look in, but it's time that pop had a comeback."

The full list of nominees will be revealed by Kelly Osbourne on Monday night, live on ITV2 from 9pm. Can't wait until then? Here's our top tips on who will be on that hot list. Look away now, Robbie...

OUR TIPS FOR THE BRITS

British Male: Mika, mark Ronson, Shayne Ward
British Female: Leona Lewis, Kate Nash, Bat for Lashes
British Group: Take That, Babyshambles, Arctic Monkeys
British single: TO BE VOTED LIVE ON SHOW but we reckon Leona Lewis will swing it
Breakthrough: Hoosiers, Klaxons, Mika
International Male: Kylie, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne
International Group: CSS, Westlife, Eagles

Wedding planner Bryan dreams of Westlife reunion
by Nat on 03 Jan 2008 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
By Maureen Coleman

Struggling pop star Bryan McFadden is hoping for a Westlife reunion - when he ties the knot with Australian singer Delta Goodrem.

The Dubliner, who quit the record-breaking boy band in 2004, says he is planning to invite his former Westlife friends to the wedding.

No date has yet been set for the big day but it is expected McFadden will marry his pop star fiancee in 2009.

The father-of-two, who was previously married to Kerry Katona, said: "It's more realistically going to be 2009, due to our massive workload.

"We don't want our wedding to be squeezed in between Delta doing a gig and me shooting a video. We want to have space and time to enjoy it."

The four remaining Westlife members - Mark Feehily, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan - all attended his first wedding to former Atomic Kitten Kerry.

But McFadden said he was not sure the boys could go this time.

" I'll be inviting them. Whether they come or not is a different matter," he said. "It'll be hard enough to plan a wedding around our schedules, let alone theirs."

Westlife kick off a new tour next month and play a hat-trick of gigs at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on February 25-27.

McFadden left Westlife in 2004 in a shock departure but insisted he had no regrets about leaving.

His first single as a solo artist went top 10 but after that his pop career took a nosedive.

"I don't have any regrets about leaving Westlife and I don't wish I was with them again," he said.

"In saying that, I will be envious when they play Croke Park. That is the pinnacle of any Irish artist's career."

McFadden also said he would love to have children with his girlfriend in the future.

"Right now, we want to enjoy our engagement and be there for each other in life and career," he said.

Winehouse and Lewis head 2007
by Villy on 01 Jan 2008 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
Amy Winehouse's Back to Black was the biggest selling album of the year in the UK, selling a massive 1.85 million copies, including 265,000 sales of a recent deluxe version of the LP.

In the singles sales race Leona Lewis, the 2006 winner of ITV1's X Factor, secured the year's best-selling single - Bleeding Love ammassed sales of 788,000 in 10 weeks, while her debut album Spirit put in sales of 1.59 million copies in seven weeks giving it the spot in the album charts.

Winehouse's success is in spite of a turbulent year during which she has been a regular headliner in the tabloid press amid reports of drug use and rehabilitation treatment.
Comment on this Article

Winehouse cancelled her remaining UK tour dates earlier this year after her husband Blake was remanded in custody charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

British albums and singles dominate the 2007 chart, with eight of the top 10 biggest singles and six of the top 10 albums by British artists.

Rihanna's summer smash Umbrella was second in the singles chart, followed by Mika's Grace Kelly, 2007 X Factor winner Leon Jackson's When You Believe and Take That's Rule the World.

Lebanese-born Mika, who holds a British passport, also grabbed third spot in the album chart with Life in Cartoon Motion, while Take That's Beautiful World and Westlife's Back Home completed the top five.

Leon Jackson celebrated his 19th birthday on Sunday with a second week at the top of the weekly UK singles chart, after his debut single When You Believe, took the Christmas number one spot, adding the title of fastest-selling single of the year with sales of 400,000 copies in two weeks.

Leona Lewis's album held on to the number one in the album chart, while Westlife hung on to second place.
