Westlife hit the ice
Get ready to throw your hands in the air and scream very loudly: Westlife are about to be crowned the coolest boy band on Earth by performing on Dancing On Ice this week.
The Irish band will be singing two hits on the show, World Of Their Own and their brand new single, Us Against The World. Meanwhile, Torvill and Dean will provide a spectacular ice performance.
"We are fans of the show and are especially looking forward to meeting and performing with Torvill and Dean,” says band member Mark Feehily. “That would be something special to remember. We have been watching and our favourites are Samantha and Gareth.” No surprises there, then!
“Samantha is doing so well and I think she'll get better and better as the weeks go by. She's my tip for the final."
Meanwhile, sportsmen Steve Backley and Greg Rusedski are getting into the spirit of this week’s show by working on their dance “personas”.
Dancing to a Billy Idol song, Steve’s desperate to get his hair dyed peroxide blonde so he can pull off the 1980s rocker look.
Greg is a James Bond fantatic and will be skating to a classic Bond theme tune. The tennis star has been doing lots of gun-toting moves in practice, but that’s probably just to give Jason a scare

Back Home Review - South Africa
***
When four fresh-faced Irish lads with the rather pretentious name of Westlife popped up on the UK music scene nearly 10 years ago many skeptics wrote them off as one-album wonders.
And it’s easy to understand why. Boy bands just don’t have a reputation for longevity, with many imploding a few years after hitting the bubble-gum music scene with frothy lyrics and easily forgotten tunes.
Not Westlife. This is their ninth album in as many years and it’s got platinum written all over it. Again!
While their previous outing, aptly called 'The Love Album', was made up of beautiful, well-known love songs which brought them a whole new mature audience, 'Back Home' is a collection of new tunes with their hit single, 'Home', topping the bill.
In essence, the appeal of Westlife lies in the fact that they make straight pop (not pop rock or electro pop) with simply structured, melodic music which they present in catchy and pleasing harmony - obviously a recipe for success with millions of fans all over the world.
Much of Westlife’s youthful appeal is undoubtedly also due to the fact that the four lads - Kian, Mark, Nicky and Shane - are handsome and healthy-looking young men, the sort of blokes that you wouldn’t mind your daughter bringing home.
But here it's more about the music. The songs on 'Back Home' are gentle and easy to listen to and perhaps even a touch better and more mature than all of their previous albums.

Shay puts fashion into a league of its very own
by Sophie Doughty, Evening Chronicle
TOON stars will swap their black and white shirts for sharp suits when they take to the catwalk for a charity fashion show.
But the Newcastle United players taking part in the annual Fashion Kicks event will once again have to compete with Irish heart-throbs Westlife for the ladies’ attention.
The event, at St James’s Park, on March 4, is organised by Toon goalkeeping hero Shay Given and will raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Tyneside Appeal, of which Shay is patron.
Given and some of his teammates will be modelling suits from the spring/summer collections by Armani, Boss, Prada and D & G, donated by Cruise Clothing. And Westlife, who are friends of the goalkeeper, will once again perform at the show.
Celebrity chef Paul Rankin has also volunteered to join the Toon players on the catwalk.
Last year’s Fashion Kicks raised over £200,000 for the appeal. And this year money from the event will also be delivered to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Although he is used to keeping his cool in front of more than 50,000 supporters on the pitch, Shay admits strutting his stuff on the catwalk can be daunting. “I’m really thrilled the players have again agreed to help me raise valuable funds for charity, he said. “We were all a little worried about taking to the catwalk last year, but once we were up there, we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. And it’s a great feeling to know we are contributing to something meaningful and helping others.
“I would also like to thank my wife Jane who is always willing to help with my charity work.”
Newcastle Chairman Chris Mort said: “Our players work tirelessly to help local charities and I am delighted to see them supporting Shay once again to raise funds for such worthy causes.”
Nicky Byrne from Westlife said: “We can’t wait to join up with Shay and the other players for what will be a fabulous evening.”
-Tickets for Fashion Kicks cost £1,500 for a table of 10 or £150 per single ticket. Contact Newcastle United’s Conference & Banqueting Department: (0191) 201 8507.

'Something Right' From Westlife (Mad.tv Greece)
Greek music channel's website www.mad.tv has a new article about Westlife today and it says that 'Something Right' is the new single and has the cover of the single too. I don't know if 'Something Right' is the new single just for Greece or for every country as the official site has said before that 'Us Against The World' will be the second single. I translated the article to English. Greek fans can read the article HERE.Westlife release new single titled "Something Right" and start a new tour. Many things go well for Westlife in a professional as well as personal level. After the announcement of their "Back Home Tour 2008" in the UK we learn that they release a new single as well, "Something Right" (the cover of which you can see below), from their album "Back Home".
Surely the best news for Kian is that he will get married in a while as he popped the question to his sweetheart, Jodi Albert, last Christmas.
The four piece "boy band" that comes from Ireland, had one of the best selling albums for 2007 in the UK and their 2007 tour "The Love Tour" set a record of ticket sales in London's O2 Arena (
mistake on the article as Westlife didn't play O2 last year). On 29 February Westlife's UK tour kicks off and they will play in towns like London, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow.
