Welcome Back Westlife!
by Villy on 18 Aug 2009 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
Westlife have spent the past year taking a well-earned break and recharging their batteries after an incredible ten years in the charts. Now, the waiting in nearly over and the boys are preparing to return with one of the most exciting albums of their career.

In preparation, we¢re giving you the chance to show the band just how much their fans are looking forward to having them back! Each fortnight we¢ll be setting you a different 'Welcome Back Westlife' task, giving you the opportunity to get creative.

We'll pick a handful of our favourite entries for each task and show them to the boys. After the final task, we'll display all the winning entries here on Westlife's official site, along with a comment on each one from a member of the band!

For the first task, we want you to write in no more than 150 words why you're looking forward to the band's return. The closing date for entries is midday on 31st August. Send your entries to westlifehq@live.co.uk, along with your full name or username.

Westlife promise 'strongest album yet'
by Villy on 11 Aug 2009 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
By David Balls, Music Reporter

Westlife have promised that their upcoming ninth studio album will be the group's strongest to date.

The Irish boyband, who have not released any new material for two years, insisted that they will surprise fans when they return later this year.

"The album will have no covers at all - we want it to be our strongest ever," Shane Filan told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"We're working on it in the studios at the minute and it's really exciting. We took a decision that we didn't want to do any covers at all this time round and give the fans 100% new material.

"We know this has to be something special because we have been away for over a year. I think everyone is going to be really surprised when they hear it."

Guy Chambers, former Savage Garden star Darren Hayes and Ryan Tedder, who penned Leona Lewis's 'Bleeding Love', are all rumoured to have contributed material for the new record.

"We're lucky to be working with some amazing writers and I'm sure this album is going to bring us back with a bang," Filan added.

"We want great up-tempo songs and some really strong ballads. That's what we made our name with and that's what we want to do again.

"The plan is to release the album before Christmas and then hit the road for a tour next year."

Westlife have sold over 40 million copies of their nine previous albums, seven of which were bestsellers in the UK.

JLS: 'We won't be like Westlife'
by Villy on 21 Jul 2009 • DISCUSS ON FORUM
By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

JLS star Aston Merrygold has admitted that the band will not be working hard to maintain a "clean-cut" image.

The group, who first found fame on The X Factor last year, are currently celebrating after reaching the top of the UK singles chart with debut song 'Beat Again'.

Merrygold, 21, has now vowed to enjoy the trappings of fame for as long as possible, including attention from female fans.

Speaking to The Sun, he confirmed: "We're not Westlife. We've only been in this job for under a year. We're enjoying it.

"We're not going to sit here and say we never go on dates and we never have sex or whatever. Westlife had such a clean-cut image. There are a lot of ladies out there."

Bandmate Marvin Humes added: "We're young boys in the only boyband in the UK. What do you think is going to happen? It's great."

Tickets for the group's forthcoming UK tour will go on sale on Friday.

Pop sensations Westlife have been secretly recording with the songwriter and producer behind Robbie Williams' biggest hits.

The chart toppers - who went back to work last week after taking a year out - are thrilled to be working with Guy Chambers.

"They are determined to bring out a new album of original songs this time," said a source.

"They don't want to record any more covers so they were delighted that Guy agreed to work with them on a number of songs for the new album."
